Legacy Survey of Space and Time: Introduction, QSO Selection, and Ordinary Variability

Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) is a decade-long survey of the Southern Hemisphere sky conducted by the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Equipped with a 3200-megapixel camera, the Simonyi Survey Telescope will image the entire visible sky every 3-4 nights in six different optical filters. LSST's strategic approach, involving an optimal cadence, extended observation durations, precise astrometric data, and the creation of deep coadded images, is poised to impact various fields of astronomy that span the revelation of dark energy, exploration of galaxy evolution and AGN structure, illustration of the Milky Way's structure, and the pursuit of exoplanets and asteroids. In this presentation, I will begin with a concise overview of LSST's key information and survey design, followed by an investigation into AGN selection and its ordinary variability. Specifically, I will spotlight LSST's unique methods for selecting QSOs and photo-z estimation. Additionally, I will illustrate how the LSST decade-long light curve could help us study the AGN disk structure through the time lag and the structure-function.
