Xin Wang

Dr. Xin Wang earned his PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics at University of California, Los Angeles, and is now a postdoctoral scholar at Caltech. Xin studies how gas flows, star formation and galactic feedback influence the cycle of baryons and metals as a key ingredient to the chemo-structural evolution of high-redshift galaxies using diffraction-limited spatially-resolved spectroscopy. In particular, Xin has gained great expertise in wide-field slitless grism data reduction associated with the Hubble Space Telescope near-infrared channels, and has been responsible for producing simulations for data that will be acquired by future space missions, e.g., JWST, WFIRST, and Chinese Space Station Telescope. Xin is currently a Co-Investigator on a JWST Early Release Science program (ERS 1324), and has been selected as one of a few participants in the inaugural JWST Master Class. Xin has also been working on modeling the mass distribution of galaxy clusters using strong and weak gravitational lensing signals, and improving the source plane morphology reconstruction of multiply imaged galaxies. Before coming to the US, Xin was working in the fields of cosmology and gamma-ray bursts, with numerous publications.
