Abstract:
The preference of supernova subtypes for specific galaxy environments (e.g., stellar age, nebular metallicity, location in the host), as well as the correlation of supernova properties with host galaxy parameters, point to the physical nature and evolutionary stage of their stellar progenitors, which are otherwise undetectable beyond the local universe. With the largest available database of supernova host galaxies, we conduct a systematic analysis of supernova-host connections, identify the dependence of supernova subtypes and properties on stellar population ages and chemical abundances, and interpret the observed correlations using existing models of supernova explosions.
