KIAA-PKU Forum 2015

Astrophysics today is a science driven by observations of the Universe. In China, access to cutting-edge observational facilities in the past was limited, but recent years have seen an explosion of opportunity for Chinese astronomers to access a wide range of facilities: both present and future, domestic and international. With increased coordination and dialogue, we can maximize the impact of such opportunities, and best utilize our human and financial resources. Now is the time for leading observers and instrument builders to gather and discuss community priorities. The theme for this year's KIAA-PKU Astrophysics Forum is "Optical and Infrared Observational Facilities for Chinese Astronomy". We are organizing a forum focused on what the optical-IR community needs now, and over the next 5-10 years. Topics to be covered in the workshop include:

  • Plans for existing and future domestic optical telescopes.

  • Access to international optical-IR telescope facilities.

  • Future large optical-IR telescopes in China.

  • Chinese participation in large international projects.

  • Astronomical instrumentation

Given that the most important component of this workshop will be discussion, we will keep talks short, and leave significant time for conversation. Registration is open to the community.
