On May 9-10, 2016, the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics hosted the second annual Beijing-Nanjing Bilateral Astrophysics Workshop. The workshop was held jointly with the PKU Department of Astronomy, Nanjing University, and Purple Mountain Observatory. The workshop aims to strengthen ties between the above-mentioned institutes in Beijing and Nanjing, to encourage new friendships, and to provide a platform for future collaborations.
A wide range of astrophysical topics was covered, including the Sun, the solar system, exoplanets, stars and stellar populations, supermassive black holes and AGNs, large-scale structure, galaxy formation and evolution, high-energy astrophysics and compact objects. Each topic had a lively debate. The Beijing-Nanjing Bilateral Astrophysics Workshop is an annual event hosted by Peking University, Nanjing University, or Purple Mountain Observatory to enable open discussion of issues of common interest in the community.
