Dr. Anupam Bhardwaj
Dr. Bhardwaj, Post-doctoral Fellow at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University, was selected as one of the two recipients of The Gruber Foundation (TGF) Fellowship 2020 by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). The Gruber Fellowship is a prestigious program that provides an amount of $50,000 (US) every year through IAU to extremely promising, early-career astrophysicists, working in any field of astrophysics.
Dr. Bhardwaj received his Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Delhi, India in 2018 including a studentship from the European Southern Observatory, Germany. He then joined KIAA as a KIAA Fellow and a Boya Fellow in May 2018 and was awarded the outstanding post-doctoral award in astronomy 2019 of the Peking University. His primary research interests are focused on pulsating variable stars and their application to precision stellar astrophysics and the cosmic distance scale.
Dr. Bhardwaj will start an independent fellowship of the East Asian Core Observatories Association (EACOA) in late 2020. He will continue his research on stellar variability, and on improving the calibration of the first-rung of the extragalactic distance scale. The Gruber Fellowship will complement his research as a grant covering travel, subsistence, and research expenses during his postdoctoral appointment as an EACOA fellow in Japan and South Korea.
