On January 18, 2024, the summary meeting of the "Galaxies and Quasars" NSFC Innovative Research Group Project was held at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University (KIAA, PKU). More than 40 leaders, experts, project members and faculty from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), PKU, and other universities and institutes attended the meeting, including CAS Academicians JING Yipeng, HAN Zhanwen, SHI Shengcai, and ZHAO Gang, DONG Guoxuan, Executive Deputy Director of the NSFC Mathematics and Physics Science Division, HE Cheng, Director of Astronomical Science of the NSFC Mathematics and Physics Science Division, MAO Yufeng, Deputy Director of Astronomy and Mechanics Division, Frontier Science and Education Bureau of CAS, LIU Jifeng, Director of National Astronomical Observatory of CAS, SHEN Zhiqiang, Director of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of CAS, LIANG Enwei, Vice-President of Guangxi University, and XIE Bing, Director of the PKU Scientific Research Division.

WU Xue-Bing, Chair of PKU Astronomy Department and Associate Director of KIAA, delivered a welcoming address and introduced the participating experts.
XIE Bing
On behalf of the PKU Scientific Research Department, XIE Bing welcomed all the attendees. He expressed that PKU has always attached great importance to basic research, especially to the construction of NSFC Innovative Research Groups, and that the "Galaxies and Quasars" Innovative Research Group project led by Luis Ho, Director of KIAA, has achieved impressive scientific results. He hoped that PKU astronomy would further utilize KIAA’s advantage as an international center of excellence to lead domestic and international collaborations, carry out wider exchanges with other institutions, advance the frontiers of science, serve the national demand for deep space exploration, and jointly promote the development of astronomy and basic research.
DONG Guoxuan
On behalf of NSFC, DONG Guoxuan congratulated the successful completion of the project. He introduced the orientation and requirements of the NSFC Innovative Research Groups and hoped that they would concentrate their efforts on core scientific problems, unite domestic and foreign resources, and collaborate in research to strive for breakthrough scientific results. He fully affirmed the "Galaxies and Quasars" Innovative Research Group formed by PKU Astronomy and hoped that the group members would continue to strengthen communication and cooperation, aiming to solve major problems at the frontiers of astronomy in the world.

Luis Ho, the leader of the project, made a detailed report on the implementation of the project research plan, important achievements, talent training, cooperation and exchange. Other team members and PKU astronomy faculty introduced the scientific progress they have achieved.
Discussion
The participating experts listened carefully to the reports, highly affirmed and recognized the achievements of the project, and had a warm discussion and put forward valuable suggestions on cooperation and exchange of astronomical research, talent cultivation, and internationalization. On behalf of PKU astronomy, Luis Ho sincerely thanked the experts for their suggestions and opinions, and hoped that in the future the astronomy community would strengthen communication and cooperation, create an academic atmosphere of openness and sharing, and jointly promote the development of astronomy in China.
