The Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University is delighted to announce that Prof. Ruobing Dong will join as a full faculty member. Prof. Dong joins as a Cheung Kong Distinguished Professor, awarded by the Ministry of Education in 2024.
Ruobing Dong
Prof. Dong is returning to PKU, where he graduated with a bachelors degree in Physics in 2008. Prof. Dong pursued further studies at Princeton University from 2008 to 2013, earning a Ph.D. in Astrophysics. From 2013 to 2016, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, supported by the NASA Hubble Fellowship, and then as a postdoctoral researcher at University of Arizona. Prof. Dong has been teaching at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Victoria in Canada since 2018, with a promotion in 2023 to a tenured associate professor.
Professor Ruobing Dong has achieved important research results in the field of planetary science and has received several awards. In 2020, he was selected for the Sloan Research Fellowship, awarded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to recognize and support scientists in the early stages of their careers.
As part of the national high-level overseas talent introduction plan, Professor Ruobing Dong has returned to Yan Yuan. His arrival will enhance the strength of Peking University's astronomy discipline in the field of exoplanets. His rich experience and profound expertise will provide valuable guidance and inspiration to our students.
